World Championship

NYAN Robotics
4/25/17 - 4/29/17

There were over 5000 teams at the beginning of the season. There were 128 teams
here from all over the world (we talked to Taiwan, South Korea, Germany, Russia
and a few others). Some teams were lottery teams (open slots they randomly assigned
to teams who did not "earn" there way here.

Leading up to the event, there was a Daily Herald article about NYAN and a parade at Carmel

Overall, a very interesting event.
We finished 25th on win/loss, and 13th overall on ftcstats.org

Although not reflected in the final result, the team had their best performance yet:
- presentation was outstanding
- autonomous was flawless in all 9 rounds
- robot was flawless in all 9 rounds
- only 2 teams had higher ranking points than us (a sign we played well, and played hard teams)
- we scored most of the points in most of our matches

There were a couple of flukes that undermined the ability to win a few matches:
- robot flipped over in 1 match (never happened ever before), costing the match
- had a marginal ref call that cost a match
- flung a ball into opponents goal, costing the match (who would have thought?!)
- paired with a lot of lottery teams, while going against tough teams

Kevin and Jonathan did an oustanding job under pressure, and really performed well.

We were a finalist for the Control Award. Wow! A testament to our autonomous prowess,
our mechansims that supported it, our robot, and our ability to sell it.

Thank You

Thank you to the parents who supported the team, shuttling us and the robot around, proving snacks
and meals, and shuttling some equipment back home. And especially for all of the
emotional support. This has been a great season, and you all helped make it easier.

Thank you coaches... you know who you are... for all you did in prep for this and this crazy season

And finally, thank you Ms. Crook for coming and supporting us at this and in our season,
and Carmel Catholic, for significantly supporting and funding us!!
